So it occurred to me that I have yet to put Bern's sheet back up since our last forum difficulties. Granted, I don't really think of him as a Homestuck fan character anymore due to changing circumstances, but since I am still playing him on this website, I'll put his sheet up. The circumstances surrounding this character in regards to him as a fan human and Homestuck fan character are no longer valid, as the session he was in was canceled.
Full Name: Bernard Fiachra
Used Name: Bern Fiachra
Date of Birth (mm/dd): November 11 (Scorpio)
Age: 16 (in the session, otherwise, any age is possible in an AU)
Height and Weight: 5' 7"
Pronouns: He/him/his
Actual Gender/Gender Identity: Male
Gender Assigned At Birth: Male
Sexual and Romantic Orientation: ? (He doesn't really know for sure.)
Medical Need(s)/Accommodation(s)?: None
Disabilities?: None
Chumhandle: minutiaeConnoisseur
Text Color (hex code): #77B709
Moon: Derse
Symbol: Upside down A with upside down T overlapping (simultaneously universal quantification and unconditional negation, which is a paradox, but the two symbols are not exactly the opposite of one another.)
God Tier: Witch of Doom
Explanation of Chosen God Tier: Doom represents inevitability and systems that cause it... a significant example of which being SBURB itself. A Witch is an active class who functions as a manipulator of their aspect. Bern does not take a passive attitude towards what is offered him as his destiny. He's continually trying to change it to his liking; to learn enough about it in order to manipulate it any way he desires. More or less, Witch of Doom is the perfect claspect for him. Assuming that Doom might specifically represent the construct of SBURB which creates the fate of the universe, and assuming that he is able to manipulate such a thing, being a Witch, right away you could deduce that any Witch of Doom, Bern included, is an anomaly — and simultaneously, a predefined part of the structures that exist. However, this is a part of the game that he was never given control over, no matter how powerful he might become as a god-tier. It only makes sense that the game itself would create him as an anomaly (ie: a class that is theorized to be female-only), something that in some way shouldn't exist as a part of its constructs. Not to mention, Bern's fear of a lack of control and attempts to create control will never be able to overcome this. My logic according to his power is that he cannot change anything that has already been created with this power, only what will be (under normal circumstances, because this already makes him insanely powerful), which doesn't give him the ultimate control he might feel he will never feel comfortable without. As a Witch of Doom, he is expected to have the optimum class to make the most of himself and ease his anxieties and uncertainties about life, and even the game. However, as we all know, nothing in SBURB comes without a price...
Land: Land of Ravens and Ironwoods
Description of Land: A stunningly beautiful dense forest with seemingly bottomless lakes scattered through it and a scattering of inquisitive ravens in the trees. The sky is always a jewel-like light violet, which gives a somewhat blue tone to the trees and the appearance of lurid twilight all day long.
Description of Consort: Gharial (A type of crocodile with a very slender snout)
Enter Item: Aerial Repeater (a type of firework usually shaped like a cylinder or cube with no obvious wick)
Strife Specibus: Bookkind
Guardian/Living situation: Bern lives in an apartment with his senile grandmother, who is constantly watching game shows on television, with her favorite being Jeopardy because she always tries to figure out the answers. He's grown up his whole life with his grandmother, which is part of the reason why trivia has become such an integral part of his life. His home is literally full of VHS tapes (yes, VHS) of game shows dating through entire decades that his grandma has accumulated.
Appearance: Bern is fairly tall and slim, with slightly wavy, platinum blonde hair that frequently falls in his face. He keeps it pulled out of his eyes in a short ponytail. His eyes are a lush green, medium-coloured. Bern wears oval glasses with thin metal frames, and his shirt is a white button-down shirt with his symbol (an upside down A with an upside down T overlapping) on the right lapel.
Personality: As more than a bit of a know-it-all, Bern is the go-to guy for trivia. And yes, he may have a "holier than thou" attitude, but he really -is- a smart guy, even though it may often be where useless information is concerned. He always has his nose in a book, and due to a combination of reading large amounts of nonfiction and having game shows blaring on the tv in the background, he ends up developing an insane amount of trivia knowledge. He definitely doesn't waste any time making his "superiority" very clear when speaking to others online, but when talking to others face to face, he's actually extremely shy, stammers, trips over his words, and in general can't form sentences very well... worse if the person he's talking to is female. Despite all that, he's good at understanding what exactly is going on... and, in accordance to his aspect... ways to thwart any incoming doom. Bern enjoys logic puzzles, testing and retesting for experimental purposes, and eventually experimenting with interesting solutions of alchemizing objects with the alchemiter. Though it doesn't show, Bern is extremely insecure about matters of control, and this is part of the reason why he learns as much as he can and experiments to such a great degree. A lack of control is a point of anxiety for him.
Likes: Coffee, cigarettes, mathematics/logic, logic puzzles, strategy games, topography/forests
Dislikes: Bright sunlight, forced social interaction, pressure to identify/recognize people, going without coffee in the morning, cabbage
Interests: Reading (nonfiction), researching, testing his intelligence and logic, playing strategy games (chess, puzzle games), tactical turn-based RPGs (Civilization, Fire Emblem, Disgaea) real-time strategy (DotA, Starcraft, AoE, Command & Conquer).
Strengths (Pros): Extremely intelligent, driven, good at taking charge, charismatic (under the right circumstances)
Weaknesses (Cons): Addictive personality, doesn’t work well with others, perfectionistic, can’t handle rejection, easily anxious under certain circumstances
Insecurities: Being unsuccessful, told that he is unsuccessful, semi-inability to recognize faces, being told what to do, small spaces (claustrophobia), not having control over a situation, having to deal with extremely emotional situations
Decision-Making/Leading/Operating Under Stress Abilities: This depends entirely on the situation. If he feels like he has control or could have control over a situation, he can be a fantastic decision maker and leader. This is not to say that his decisions are, however, the best ones or ones that have much preference towards anyone besides him. If he is in a situation where he feels he no longer has control, he could make overly rash decisions, do extraordinarily risky things, or be driven to utter inaction.
Other (Optional): Bern is almost incapable of recognizing faces, which really contributes to his shyness when he meets others in person. He will have to get to know people very well before their face is ingrained in his memory. Because of this, he may mistake characters for others frequently until he knows their appearance well. Despite this, he can be strangely charismatic. For things that aren’t faces, he has a semi-photographic memory, which helps him add to his seemingly bottomless repertoire of trivia knowledge.
Enneagram: 3, (weak) wing 4
MBTI: INTJ (Dominant: Introverted Intuition - Auxiliary: Extraverted Thinking - Tertiary: Introverted Feeling - Inferior: Extraverted Sensing)
About his place in a sessions: I can imagine that throughout the game, Bern begins with the same kind of attitude he takes toward most things - superiority, the idea of already knowing what is possible and just taking the right path to get there - for example, in the ways he attempts to manipulate the objects with the alchemeter, frequently fusing new things - not out of curiosity as much as out of trying to gain control over his new environment, and, with luck, find a loophole. But it turns out that the game isn’t predictable for him, even with all his knowledge. In fact, starting out he does a lot more fighting the game construct than actually learning from it. This creates in him a lot of pessimism that he didn’t originally show - which was hidden deep inside him for a long time; the arrogance he tends to show is how he protects himself from it, more or less. Eventually, however, he understands what his purpose is - and that is to stop fighting the game and follow it. Only then does he manage to do as he desires, which is manipulate to his liking. As weird as it sounds, he has to allow the game’s constructs to progress before he is able to do the things he intends to do - which often are beyond what the game allows or beyond what is expected of the basic framework. If you haven’t figured it out by now, this is where his aspect ties in.
TL;DR, Bern wants to cheat. He wants to break the game and use his knowledge to overcome it. The game isn’t having any of it. Only when Bern stops trying to find loopholes and starts trying to actually understand the game does he make progress and actualize his aspect. (Granted, doing what he wants may not end up being the path he wants to take.)
