Applications of Rules and Guidelines
- Rules and Guidelines apply anywhere and everywhere, unless otherwise specified by the forum description. If the forum description allows exclusion or bending of specific rules, those rules may then be excluded or bent.
- Thread owners, mods, and general users may not excuse rule-breakings or exclude rules, unless the specifications above allow this. Only admins have the power to do this.
General Etiquette
- You may swear. This is a roleplay forum for Homestuck, so anyone joining is expected to be mature enough to handle curse words.
- Do not insult other users or call them names, either to their face or behind their back, unless you are playing a character. Even when playing a character, though, be sure to only insult other characters, and not users themselves. This behavior is unacceptable.
- If you have a problem with another user, see a moderator or admin about it. Anyone playing a character, however, is expected to understand that our characters are not us.
- If you wish to calmly discuss topics including religion or politics with other users, that is fine; however, be responsible. These subjects are easily turned sour, so keep the discussions polite and fair. Do not insult other people's beliefs.
- Avoid triggering topics. This includes rape, sexual harassment, abuse, molestation, eating disorders, self-harm, suicide, abortion, and anything else mentally or emotionally damaging (this list may update, so keep tabs on it. Also feel free to look online for lists of common trigger topics; do not assume that anything on those will apply to this particular site, though).
- Treat controversial topics (like abortion, capital punishment, marijuana, prostitution, etc.) with care and nuetrality. You may hold a conversation with someone about these topics, but do not insult anyone else's beliefs.
- Do not insult other peoples' sexual preference, gender, political party, or any other life decision or situation (this can even include college majors). This is a Homestuck forum, guys. We accept all types as they are, just like the comic does.
- If you feel like you are being harassed or insulted by another user, let a mod or admin know, and send us what they said, so we can properly handle the situation.
- If you feel like you can't be online without breaking one of these (or other) rules, please do everyone a favor and take a break until you can calm down.
Accounts
- Please avoid creating multiple accounts. We understand that sometimes a username is bothering you, and that people lose usernames and passwords and emails and the like, but these are the only situations in which you should create more than one account. You may play multiple characters form one account. If you need to create another account, let an admin know afterwards, so we can change some things on character profiles and active topics to make things easier for you, and for those around you. If you don't want an old account to exist on the site anymore, let an admin know what you want done about it so we can handle it for you!
Banning
- Banning users will hopefully be a rare occurrence; however, if this does happen, do not post on behalf of one. They were given their chances, and have been banned for good reason.
Roleplay etiquette
- Posts must be four sentences or longer, unless otherwise specified by the forum, sub-forum, or thread creator. Pesterchum or Trollian logs count as one sentence. We know this can be difficult, but it's a good way of keeping people thinking about their characters, their situations, and things like that.
- If you're going to roleplay a triggering topic, put "[TRIGGER WARNING: _____]" after the topic title (with the blank filled in by whatever triggering topics there may be included in the roleplay).
- You may roleplay sexual things, but put "[EXPLICIT CONTENT]" after the topic title if you're going to do that.
- Be sure to keep your grammar in check, and use full words and sentences. You may shorten words (like "anything" to "anythin' ", etc.) if a character is talking, and you may use texting abbreviations (like "brb" "u" "qt") only in Pesterchum and Trollian logs.
- Keep on track in group roleplays. Don't fill up pages upon pages with posts containing nothing but a conversation or side-adventure between you and one other character, especially if it ultimately accomplishes nothing but building up character relationships. Make sure you aren't excluding or ignoring other characters, or drowning the other users in pages of useless content. If you want to have a conversation or adventure with another character, do it in the One-on-One section.
- Group roleplays are for groups for a reason. don't exclude or ignore other members, and make an effort to work as a team towards a goal, or the progression, of the roleplay.
- Do not god-mod (this includes controlling a character that is not your's, killing another character without express permission from the creator of the charcater, and creating a relationship that has supposedly been a longstanding one between characters without permission from the owener(s)of that/those character(s) ).
- Do not blur (this includes treating characters the way you would treat the user behind them without giving your character ample reason to treat them this way, giving your character knowledge you have that they would not, and otherwise blurring the line between yourself and your character. You are not your character).
- OOC (out of character) posts and things go in the OOC section, the chatbox, or in a spoiler labeled "OOC" at the top or bottom of your post.
- If you complete or discontinue a roleplay, please PM or otherwise contact a moderator or admin to request to move the thread to the Completed Roleplays or Discontinued Roleplays section, respectively. This may seem a bit frivolous, but it will help keep the forum a little more neat and organized, and make finding active roleplays much easier for members.
Creating (and Having) an OC
- To create an Original Character, use the layout provided in the Original Character Templates section. Fill out the proper one, and post that into the Original Character Sheets section.
- You don't need to have anyone approve your character, but Admins and Mods will be going through the characters there to make sure everything if filled out, nothing contradicts anything else there, and nothing goes against canon rules.
- If you left a field blank and a staff member asks you to fill it, you may give them the reason you left it blank, but you need to put "N/A because ___" in the empty field (with the blank filled with the reason).
- If two facts directly contradict each other, you need to change one of them; however, if a staff member asks you to change two contradicting facts that you don't think are contradicting, let them know, give your reasoning, and put the reasoning in the "other" section.
- If something about your character contradicts canon rules, you need to change it; however, if a staff member tell you to change something for that reason and you don't believe they are correct, you must provide evidence from Homestuck or the Homestuck wikia, just as they must.
- You must make a character sheet on the site before playing the character on the site.
- You do not have to follow the Original Character Creation guide. It is there to help, not direct. It is however advised that you do so. It is located in the 'Resources' section.
Applications
